Agentic distribution roundup: Muse, WebMCP, and Allstate's ChatGPT app

If it wasn’t clear before, AI is now the buyer.

TL;DR

  1. Muse is being adopted faster than ChatGPT. It doesn’t disclose it’s an agent, so your analytics log it as a human. We break down how to resolve it.
  2. WebMCP is live in ChatGPT’s desktop browser for Work and Codex users. When an agent compares insurers, the ones with WebMCP answer first.
  3. Allstate launched a ChatGPT app. It scored 13/25 in our audit, below the industry benchmark.
  4. OpenAI is piloting “Sponsored Agent” ads, where the click opens a branded chat inside ChatGPT.
  5. CB Insights named WaniWani to its 2026 Insurtech 50. See you at ITC!

1. Muse

If Muse visited your site this week, it’s likely your analytics logged it as a human.

You’ve probably seen posts from consumers saying Muse compared carriers and saved them a few thousand dollars. We tested it, and yes, it compared quotes from 7 providers in under 5 minutes.

The main issue with Muse is how it browses. Muse shows up as a regular Chrome browser on Linux, with nothing in its headers that says Muse or agent. When it fills in your quote form, your analytics record a human visit and your CRM gets what looks like a normal lead.

Amazon blocked Muse last week and Insurify followed on September 23.

We believe blocking an agent is short-sighted. The agent is still working for a person, and a block sends that buyer to whichever competitor lets the agent in. What you need instead is a solution for agents, in two parts:

  1. Detection. You have to know an agent is on your site.
  2. Redirection with guardrails. Once you’ve detected an agent, give it agentic tools such as WebMCP, with appropriate guardrails and controls.

We’re submitting our first batch of Muse connectors this week and will share our learnings. Muse connectors use the same protocol as ChatGPT apps, but the experience is slightly different.

2. WebMCP: agents can now quote from your website

On August 25, OpenAI turned on WebMCP in the ChatGPT desktop app’s built-in browser for Work and Codex users. With WebMCP, a website publishes a machine-readable list of what it can do (say, get_home_insurance_quote and the inputs it needs), and an agent on the page calls it directly.

For insurers, this means the agent no longer has to fill in your form field by field, so when it compares several providers, your quote comes back faster and more reliably.

Stripe has added WebMCP to every Checkout page. In Stripe’s own benchmark, agents using WebMCP spent 42% fewer tokens and made 38% fewer tool calls to complete a payment.

3. Allstate is on ChatGPT

Allstate, the fourth-largest auto insurer in the US with about 10% of the market, deployed an auto estimate app in ChatGPT last week. You share your details and your vehicle, get an estimate in the chat, then move to Allstate to customize and buy.

We audited the app and it scored 13/25, below the 17/25 average across the apps we’ve tested. The best ones score 21 or 22. Full audit on our blog.

4. OpenAI pilots Sponsored Agent ads

OpenAI announced the format on September 16. The usual link becomes a “Chat with us” button that opens a branded conversation with the advertiser’s own agent inside ChatGPT. Wayfair and Angi are in the pilot, which is US-only and open to a small set of advertisers for now.

We’ve started testing ChatGPT ads with our innovation partners and will share results soon. Get in touch if you’d like to join.
